Installing the roof panels (pictures anyone?)

Postby GuyT » Mon Jan 16, 2017 2:30 pm

I am cutting the internal roof panels today and am thinking about how I'm going to mount them? I think running wooden 'spars' the length of the van would make sense but I have thermoliner installed covering the whole roof..... and then how would you stick the wooden spars up even if I didn't have the thermoliner, glue? I am using 5mm ply, which will then be carpeted. I think I may need multiple attachment points as it may flex and wobble when moving if not mounted/screwed down properly.

If anyone has any pictures of how they did there's please share.

Cheers

3mm drill bit some screws and a few bits of wood on the roof spars
and fix it to that

On the custom I just used 6mm plastic riverts and fixed it straight to the roof

Yes I went for full length spars. To hold them up I used small pieces of wood slotted into the metal roof joists, and screwed through available holes into these pieces. Where I couldn't do this I used self tappers.

I've done it and learnt in the process, as always.

Ive got a swb, low roof so to maximse height have sat the panels back into the roof space as far as possible. Its all good but holy schmoly it took a while, as everything does the first time you do it.

Thanks for the input
