Hi all! just thought I would ask does anyone have any tips for securing an awning to a van? I have just bought an awning and would be grateful for any tips!

All ill say is even if you bolt to metal wall or roof, use some spreader plates inside the roof or wall and seal the hell out of all the bolt holes and try to prevent rust!!!.
Use as many mounting points as poss to spread weight and loading on the van and make sure everything is nice and tight. May even be worth thread locking nuts for peace of mind!

Sorry by awning do you mean the pull out type or the tent type? If the latter you can het "awning rail" channel in aluminium about 5 m for 15 quid it screws to van and you slide the awning (tent type ) bead into the rail.

Yeah spot on mate had one on old van with tunnel type universal awning. Wirked a treat. Screwed mine to edge of rain gutter on passenger side... just dont drill thru your finger like i did!!! Across the 2.5 or 3m i used every available hole in channel and you can even bent it round corners!

The one i had didn't have outer flanges, and screwed in centre of channel so was only 10 or 12mm wide. This fitted to actual gutter verticle side face and didnt look too out of place.
