I bought one of these to keep our battery bank topped up when using hook up

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/401280425710

That said I've never used hook up as with 2 X 100w solar panels on the roof and a Durite voltage sensing split charge relay keeping the 3 x 100ah leisure batteries topped up we've never actually plugged in (even using 3000w inverter to power microwave/toaster/kettle/slow cooker etc)

I've used it to recover a couple of tired batteries and to charge other batteries though and it's been as, good as gold.

Sounds spot on... everythimg 12v but also supplemented by 240vac to 12vdc transformer.
Exactly how caravans are set up. Only mains is for a few 240v sockets and to power 12v system

From the leisure battery i would like to place an inline fuse (what size fuse would you recommend and thickness of wire) before this wire goes into my main fuse box?
Also if i have the split charger charging my battery and a solar panel charging my battery would i need to run 2 isolation switches, one for each source of charging? or will both be fine charging the same battery at the same time?

I would use thick 100a cable but if your max poss draw with all circuits running is say 40a just use 60a cable n fuse from battery to main fuse board then respective size fuses to protect circuits.
Dont matter if cables are too thick as long as can securely terminate in the ports of the fuse board input.
100a cable may not fit into your smaller fuse box.

The durite fuses that bolt in are availablein loads of ratings or amperages
