The camper that isn't..... but is....

Postby gatecrasha » Sat May 20, 2017 3:19 pm

OK so I picked up a 2003 jumbo in not bad condition.
Few minor issues but generally good.
Initially it was purchased to do our forth coming house move with so floor space is a must.
That rules out doing standard bed base and kitchen unit type layouts.
Also it needed to ply it's role regards other hobbies
Eg:-
falconry (must be capable of carrying upto 6 falcons)
Motorbike (drag days etc etc)
And still be capable of eating sleeping / chilling in.
1st issue. Awning...
Had a quote for a 2nd hand fiamma at 560 quid
After peeing myself laughing I made the claim I could kit the entire vn out for that including ming my own awning....
So far I'm in budget (just) but it's nearly done.
I'll post some pics shortly but I have manged to stick to the criteria of having the van fully usable yet keep the full floor space.

Have you thought about having beds and hob/worktop that fold up into the sides north sea ferry style? I also know someone that have their bed lower down from the roof.

Good idea except it's just still using a space as such.
I needed to maintain as much of the actual van space in full as possible.
The answer I took was to make a camper into an actual camper in the true camping sense.
Folding camping sofa can be stowed
Double airbed can be utilised ;-)
Add an eberspacher and a but of carpet lining and bingo.

Cubby box for tea coffee etc which also has 12v cob lights as down lighters to illuminate cooker.

Work in progress pic of passenger side rear.
Awning poles no longer stored here
Instead I've joined them together and awning is rolled around them and rachet straps fixed to top corner of roof / wall side holds the lot in place.
Folding bike ramp is now fixed to sidewall via bungee cords.

Ex post office bulkhead.
Over cab locker is a diy job with 2 doors leading to one compartment.
Curtosy light switches fitted to locker to work auto lighting when locker is opened.
Top locker above sofa is again a diy job again auto lit via door opening.
Bottom of bulkhead has a section cut out so bass box for front / cab has space.
This is boxed along width of van to cover which also gives space to house main fuse box for rear / leisure wiring - eberspacher and houses the stereo for the rear end.
3v AAA battery led light string fitted under top locker as alternative low light
Top cab locker also houses the remote control unit with remote dimmer for the main led strip roof lights this was an eBay bargain and works brilliantly 100 ft plus remote range

Touch of genius lol
Not seen in pics is the little storage cupboard that sits below the tv.
This houses dvd folder 320 dvd.
Also will house the tech box that will allow me to use 2x 2tb hard drives for movie play back onto tv.
This box sits between slide door and wheel box cover.
OK I screwed up by not making box wider so there's a gap between tv box and wheel arch cover. Gap filler is in above pic.
Wine bottle holder ;-)
(She who must be obeyed stopped moaning about ebay purchases when she saw this)
