Help with smell!

Postby DIGGER73 » Sun Oct 22, 2017 9:33 am

Hello everybody, I need help! I've had my SWB Transit Custom professionally converted recently - I collected it at the beginning of October. The interior of the van still smells 'solventy' despite using Neutradols for the last month, but the worst smell, which again smells 'solventy' is when i'm driving the van and have the windows open. The smell comes in through the drivers window and seems to heat up/worsen at speed. I've had the van washed at one of those car wash places, and when you shut the windows it is just the interior smell, which tells me it's not the odour filter or anything to do with the air con/ventilation system. The converter company is at a loss to what it is as they stated they go nowhere near the engine bay, or underneath the van - the battery is under the drivers seat. The smell is not burning a burning plastic or rubber smell at all - it literally is 'solventy' in smell. What I have noticed with the van is under speed braking the brake pedal and steering wheel do wobble more now - the ABS lamp does not light up. Any suggestions on both would really help as the smell does get to you.

Every van I’ve built I have gone mad with waxoil everywhere inside and out it takes a long time to clear used to leve doors open all day to help clear it got woke by police one night forgot to shut it up they thorough it had been done over . If the heater radiator is weeping you may get a smell like rotten curry or are batteries overchargeding

Thanks for the replies. It's definitely a solventy type smell. AC works fine and there is a hole in the floor where the Gas Bottle fits. Getting the van balancing etc done at the weekend which will be a great time to check the chassis underneath.

Well, I checked underneath the van, myself and the guy at Kwik Fit couldn't find anything solventy underneath the van. Totally at a loss. Going to vent the van as much as possible and see if that helps with it. Totally bizarre and at a loss as to why it's coming from outside in once the windows are open!

Try turning off the gas and tempre block off the hole under it see if it’s coming in there and have a good look around the door seals
