Breakdown recovery recommendations?

Postby GuyT » Wed Mar 21, 2018 10:44 am

Can anyone recommend a (decent) European wide breakdown recovery company. I aim to drive to Spain this summer. I currently have UK cover through.... cant remember... but as the van is 7 years old they wont cover Europe!!!

Any recommendations appreciated. It seems Green flag will cover, I am yet to get a quote.

Cheers

Thanks for the feedback. Action-call would seem to be the cheapest from my quotes

Abit late, but I checked action-call today and after requesting a quote I checked the policy wording and they state:
The insurer will not pay for claims arising from or associated with:

16) a) Minibuses, commercial vehicles, motorhomes, horseboxes, or limousines;
b) Vehicles exceeding 3,500 kg (3.5 tonnes) gross vehicle weight;
c) Vehicles more than 5.18 metres (17 feet) long, 1.905 metres (6 feet 3 inches) wide and 2.44 metres (8 feet)

So not sure about them. Looks like they would decline in the end.

Green Flag? have found them quite good personally but do realise they have taken a hit since being taken over by direct line. bonus for me is they will pull you out of anywhere with no extra charge. Lass I know with a Renault van has been saved by them a few times and has nothing but positive words to say about them.

Try the AA. They may not be the cheapest but have recently covered not only our '56 plate 350 but also our K reg mk3 Astra for trips to Europe.

Meanwhile, our 2000 mk5 camper was recovered home from Germany after engine failure using the breakdown insurance that came with our Adrian Flux policy. The service was english language, lots of expenses covered, and the camper was home in two weeks. Can't fault it.

As an aside, Flux's motorhome insurance can be pricey, but that's because the policy also includes a lot of options you don't need to take out, including misfuelling and key insurance. Breakdown was the main option we kept because it worked out about the same as a week away on AA european breakdown, and we usually get at least 4 weeks away.

Just done mine have been with AA for years but now my new van is based on o 17 seat Minibus rated at 4600kgs GVW they will not cover it so have gone with RAC this is family cover in any vehicle to get this cover I had to join the camping club but for the first year it is free.
with European cover it will cost me £180 which is the same as I was paying the AA next year the RAC price will be the same plus camping club fees
