headlight problem

Hi. Well I bought an EX POLICE T350M TRANSIT 2008 registration last Friday, on Sunday my son informed me that the main beams did not work, he had turned off the auto lights on the main switch, checked the fuses No 50.51.52.53.54...and relay R13....STILL NO JOY...got in touch with the chap I bought it from, and because of the 172 mile round trip distance involved, he advised me to get an auto electrician to fix the problem and send him the bill, however I would like to fix it myself if possible, so any help from the forum would be greatly appreciated.
