Haven't personally had to fit one. The Ecotec's are a bulletproof motor, my VX has nearly 300K on it, and still performing fine, no blue smoke on start up.
Some known issues are that the coils go on them; the back of the intake manifold gasket in the valley is a problem to seal (can be done, just careful reassembly), heads can have very small cracks between the exhaust valves if they have been overheated or were on lpg. I'd do the intake manifold gasket, rocker cover gaskets, rear main seal before you fit the motor...they would be a real pain in ass to do that when in a Transit engine bay.
Hey, you could probably even squeeze the L67 Ecotech in there...supercharged Transit!!
The L67's have a low profile blower, and you could use the extra low rpm grunt. With not a lot of expensive
mods, 250rwkw would be possible. Reasonable L67's go for $750-1000.
I just love that parts are everywhere. Water pump from Repco: $45.00, Filter $6 etc etc...they are the cheapest engines to run, and every man and his dog will have some parts in the shed.
Edit: Forgot to mention that the Ecotech is a ALDL connection to read any DTC's, and not OBD2.
Cheers,
Tim
