Hello to everyone on the forum!
Im a new memeber with an 05 Mk6 short wheelbase low roof 2.0tddi 100 280. Ive had the van for around 3.5 years. I looked around for a solid example but couldnt find one in my price range so bought a straight but rotten one and welded it up and painted it. Theres some signs of grot comming back through but shes still tidy. I bought the van to get my bike to Motocross but i also use it every day for commuting. I love it. i dont know why.
Its argueably the most rotten thing ive ever had to weld up and that includes old air cooled VWs and they are bad! I actually visited the plant in Southampton when they were putting the line in for the MK6 and I witnessed the bodies being built. the waxing and undersealing processes were as good as any other vehicle manufacturer so why they rust so bad is confusing. Strangely the doors and bonnets very rarely rust. Im convinced that the bodies were made of an inferior quality steel and that the doors and bonnet were a better quality.
This was it after id completed the mini restoration. I havent got any current pictures, but ill take one and post it soon. Its a bit more "worn in" now!
