1984 Mk2 Transit Crew Bus

Postby Denzil » Wed Mar 25, 2009 12:48 pm

Hi. I've got a 1984 Mk2 short wheel base Transit 2litre (affectionately known as Jorge) which began life as a crew bus and was run by a UK University Department for field trips. It's done just over a 100k miles since new on the original engine, the only modification being a Weber carb. This sturdy beast has done ten trips to southern Spain and back and is the best all-round vehicle I have ever owned. 4WD drivers have no idea how versatile this vehicle can be in off-road situations! I've just had some welding carried out on the chassis and may be in need of a steering box sooner or later, plus other bits and pieces as I intend to keep Jorge on the road. Any help I can get on accessing spares, technical advice etc will be most welcome.
It's good to know you're out there.

Thanks for welcome! :D
I think the steering box is adjusted as far as it will go, but without taking it apart and letting someone skilled assess it, I don't know how long it's got to go. It's never failed an MOT, but the play on the steering wheel seems to be increasing and I was told some time back that 'it's gonna need replacing at some point'...
I've got a leaking windscreen and suspect the metal rim is rotten underneath. Mastic's doing a holding job for now. Any thoughts on fixing the problem?

Hi Denzil, I noticed on another thread that you were thinking of selling Jorge. Is he still available? Contact me if so. Thanks.
