Say u guys who have built the van, organise a relay, Lands End to John o Groats.
Would prob raise a good few quid in sponsorship, If the van has forum decals it raises the groups profile, and it gives all those who so kindly gave up their time, labour, parts, and money all a chance to have a drive of the van.
Van can still be auctioned off at the end.
Charity wise, Help for Heros is a popular choice it seems, could be worth thnking along lines of beaulieu too, prob not the sort of charity that automatically springs to mind, but we are all vehicle enthusiasts, and anyone who has been there will appreciate what they do.

Good idea :)

Sounds like a great idea to raise extra cash.

But we still need to decide on "The Good Cause".

i'm all for ferreting around for small, dedicated, real hands on groups. in aid of Kids or Young dependent people.
It also may be easier to get more support for these sort of groups to stir up interest in any form of sponsored event, were that route to be taken.

A sponsored drive would be a cracking idea if it could be organised, for all the above reasons. You lads have already put so much effort into making this happen, the forum deserves some recognition. Have you had the press involved yet? If the van is going to be 'turn key' by the time it reaches Kent, it might help to raise the profile and so increase the eventual return.
Keep up the good work, see you all soon :D .

really sorry to hear about that m8.At 53 I have lost friends and family to cancer of some description.I too support cancer charities, especially a local one to me St Peter and St James which is a Hospice that obviously doesn`t cure the terrible diseases but provides quality of care and allows their clients/patients,whatever you want to be called a certain amount of dignity before passing away.I am actively involved in fundraising events and know many of the staff personally.Yes,of course they get paid for what they do,who doesn`t,but I will tell you this.....................if I ever suffer from a cancer related illness or any other for that matter,I know where I want to go for my last few weeks or days ,even hours and that is St Peter and St James Hospice in Wivelsfield Green,East Sussex.

Postby mothership » Sat Sep 14, 2013 11:43 pm

If you want to think of a charity in the future - I have a Mothership which has been specifically adapted for my son who has complex physical and learning difficulties. The van has done well but now has a serious oil leak and really isn't big enough for his needs and equipment. I am just about to try and find funds to update it and to adapt a new one. Although my son has very complex difficulties, he is tube fed, etc, it doesn't stop us from having a good life. We have just returned from three weeks in Scandinavia where he swam in lakes and the sea, went to Legoland and Moominland and visited seven countries via eight ferries all with our beloved Mothership. So if anyone could adapt/repair/want to choose us as their next charity drive we'd be very grateful. Anything gratefully received. Just about to start looking for charity funding for a power base for his very specialised wheelchair seating. The seat alone cost £10,500 as his physical movements are very complex and a motorised base that is crash tested and will take the dynamic seating is between 8 - 10 grand. Just in case anyone is at a loss as to where to put their charitable ideas. Thank you Mothership
