Volunteer Needed to Tow 6 wheeler from Northampton to Readin

Postby MinorMatt » Thu Sep 29, 2011 9:44 pm

Guys,

We need a volunteer to tow/transport the 6 wheeler from Northampton way to Reading (or someone who will lend their van and drive down in something smaller provided).

Luke has a braked A-Frame which can be used, so you dont need a trailer or anything like that!

I would volunteer my van, but I simply don't have enough money avaliable to put petrol in the tank!

You do realise that it is not legal to tow the "Project Van" with an A Frame :!:

a A FRAME is only for recoverey to a safe place plus the car/van being towed needs to be road legal.
lots of people use them and get away with it but that dont make it right

this has been covered a fair few times but as i see it thats the case with a normal A frame, but my frame is a braked one and therefore the towed vehicle is viewed as a trailer - i dont know of any cases where somone has been prosicuted for towing a non road legal vehicle on a braked a frame - providing all the trailer criteria has been covered :D

And unless the engine is running you have no servo assistance so the brakes are not working as they are designed. That is why the AA/RAC stoped using them as VOSA was going to prosicute them .

Can we have this debate under a different post??
The purpose of this was to get the van from Northampton to Reading and try to encourage people to help.If anything this is doing everything to try and discourage those that might want to help. Those that wish to read up on the towing laws can do so I`m sure with a little help directing them to "view topics"elsewhere hint.
Perhaps we need to change the topic title to "volunteer needed to transport 6 wheeler from Northampton to Reading".

Al right we should chat about this under a different post :D but a servo only provides assistance the force from the brake mechanism doesnt need a servo as it's got 1600kgs of van behind it as the brake works off the over run just like a caravan - where as a human pushing the brake needs the assistance from the servo as they can't push hard enough :)
