P244D Fault Code

Postby malmcg » Fri Dec 29, 2017 7:22 am

2014.50 Ford Transit MY VAN 350L EUR5 6 Speed manual
I have had motor go to limp mode and has to be towed 6 times with less than 50,000k on clock.
Ford dealer resets codes, update software and tell me it's fixed. It will run for a random period then happen again. Could be months or hours.
Started after 1500k from new.
Finally got someone to tell me the code.
P244D. [ Ford Exhaust Temperature Too High For Particulate Filter Regeneration ]
Still trying to get it fixed.
Anyone else experienced this?
Thanks. Malcolm [Australia]

Didn't even know there was a code that was for the exhaust temps being too high, as the temps being high would help the van do a regen. You either have a faulty exhaust temperature sensor or there is something else which is wrong.
If you want to try and see what is wrong with it you have to do 2 things:

Buy an obd reader, i suggest the obd link mx wifi/bluetooth
Download an app on your ios/android phone called Forscan

Now with this app you can montior your exhaust temperatures (and all the other sensors and fault codes) and see what the ecu is reading for exhaust temperatures. Usually during dpf regen temps in the dpf will reach 640-670'c. During normal operation between 250-320'c.

That is the best way to see whats wrong with your van.

Thanks for that. Have started recording stats.
Seems I had wrong information re limp mode.
Ford told me that was what was happening, but declined to tell me what exactly limp mode should do.
I looked it up myself [resticted power but driveable] - that is not what happens.
Console beeps twice, Check engine light comes on, sometimes also service now. Within 30 seconds have lost ALL power and will not restart.
Which is all pretty exciting in middle lane on an expressway.
So to correct ... it is not limp mode it is dead mode.

Your oil level being to high/diluted can set this code. I would try an oil change.
