Heated Screen only working on One side

Postby Y14JMM » Tue Oct 27, 2015 11:45 pm

Just noticed my heated windscreen is only working on the passenger side and not the drivers side, took it in to local dealer and was told there was nothing they could do under warranty due to there being a small chip on the side that is working and that I would be best going through insurance and getting screen replaced!!
Does anyone know if there are any connectors that may have come loose anywhere or any other reason apart only one half works?

If it's like the MK7, it will have a separate fuse for each side

Thanks for the reply Andy, didn't realise it had two fuses! What a flaff to get to though and I havn't got particuly large hands! Anyway I swapped fuses round and it didn't fix the situation! may try relays next unless anyone has any other ideas??
or are you fed up with this subject?

Oh I meant to ask how the pillar trim comes off so I can check for loose connection?

Not sure about the pillar trim.
Do you not have a manual to tell you what fuse does what :?:

I'd also be checking the resistance on the window it's self, as it's possible that it could be open circuit :|

Yes I have a manual, thats how I knew where to find fuses and which ones were which, swapped them round but no difference, I see they have separate relays to so may swap these round to, but you have lost me with the 'checking resistance on the window itself for an open circuit'?

No problem :)
Do you have a multi meter :?:
Find the connections for the windscreen side you wish to check.
Disconnect at least one side. Connect multimeter to the two terminals of the heated element in the screen and check you actually have a circuit.

You could also use multimeter to check ou have voltage at the connectors

I had the same in my 14 plate, noticed after three weeks that one side didn't work, was replaced under warranty. I was told they'd done a few that were faulty!

Apparently this is common problem with Ford Vans. Cable that connects to the screen is detaching. I had this before. Ford was not very helpful to fix the problem. On my first visit to ford they told me they have not found problem with electrics and they can’t test it as the screen was not fogging?!?? I’ve joked so shall I come back in winter and he replied yes that would be the best?!!! Joke Two weeks later on another visit after I’ve mention detached cable to the screen they managed to fix it and yes confirmed it was the wire. Now after 3 years later the same chappen.
