Key fob

Postby norfolkandgood » Wed Jan 25, 2017 8:47 pm

Does the key fob have a battery in it?
How is it opened up to replace it?

It's my mates van, I haven't seen the fob or know anything about it. It's working intermittently and he suspects battery is on it's way.

Cheers.

It's a mk8 fwd diesel high top 65 plate I think.

He's got a bit of a flap on as there are tools in it and he can't find the spare fob

I did point out to him that by using the key in the door it should lock, and it does.

It should I think also be under warranty if it's fecked as it's not 2 years old yet.

He has been on to Ford and they said £77 +vat for a new one and then reprogram it.

Cheers.

So why is he being charged if it's faulty, and under warranty :?:

Phoned dealer up and asked for a price they said seventy odd quid and it would need coding etc and to book it in to get sorted.

Was telling me and I said to tell them to do it for nowt as it should still be under warranty, probably just chancing their arm for some money.

Apparently it has a battery in it that does not charge from the vans electric system and can't be changed so when it's out of charge needs replacing for nigh on a hundred quid?

Doesn't sound right to me either but I don't know, going over there Saturday morning to pick up timing chain stuff for my van so am going to see what the score is.

Cheers.

Ok, so I was in dealers Saturday morning went to service desk and regardless of age of vehicle there is no way to tell whether it is a warranty job or not until they get into it. I pointed out that it hasn't been submerged in liquid or smashed and if its a sealed unit moisture shouldn't bother it. Mechanic was under impression that it charges from the vehicle?
Said it will take a full day to sort, so it is booked to go in a week on Tuesday, will have to see.
Cheers.
