Mk7 or Mk8 regrets?

Postby B19 DAN » Tue Mar 21, 2017 8:48 am

I currently have a 62 plate sport with 27k miles, in mint condition, toying with the idea of maybe jumping ship, wether that be a mk8 L2 H2. I like the look of them, and the practicality of the extra load space, if anyone has went from the Mk7 - Mk 8, pro's and con's? Do you regret it, or wished you had done it sooner? Thanks. Dan

I had a Mk7 for 15 years from new. Last year I bought a Mk8.

The Mk7 was a great van no doubt, but the Mk8 is way superior. Quiet, smooth and superbe to drive. Quite frankly I don't know how they make a diesel van that quiet and smooth.

I have an L3H3 155bhp Trend. I would say that 155 is sufficient but I wouldn't want a less powerful engine. Power is good but you have to work it, and there's nothing at all before the turbo kicks in about 1.5k RPM, so you have to use the gears carefully. That takes some getting used to after the Mk7.

Quoted fuel economy figures are optimistic to say the least - 36mpg average!!! Driving reasonably carefully with half payload I get just under 27 mph - but then that's roughly what I got from my Mk7 so not complaining.

Not had it long enough to comment on reliability/durability.

Hope that helps.

Apologies yes a Mk6 - although the 7 is a facelift of the 6 so same thing really.
