push clutch to start

Postby aredee » Tue Oct 24, 2017 6:59 pm

Is it possible to override or disengage the function .it is obviously some sort of safety thing in case its left in gear but after nearly 50 years of driving i would like to think im clever enough to realize this myself

Especially as they have a 'not in neutral' gear lever switch  but i think the clutch thing is more to do with stop start, although I'm sure not all vans have it.

Be interesting to know if it can be turned off, I've not seen anything obvious myself but I'm sure the info would be there.

Mines not got got stop start
But if you put the clutch down turn the key the engine starts to turn over .. Let go of the key ... Lift the clutch up a but .. It stops turning over then press the clutch down again and it starts on it own without touching the key :?

That's part of the stop-start routine, so it looks like it may be already installed, but not enabled :? :?

Bjt only has 1 battery i think lolz Jippo :o although i am quite envious of his rear view mirror

On vehicle config it states starter stop start or standard starter i think so maybe 2 batteries and a special starter are needed?

Mine never works anyway.

 I know what you mean, I usually turn it off in the car as it gets annoying when it randomly stops at traffic lights etc. At least it doesn't stop if you hold the clutch down, whereas the annoying Caddy auto that my son used to have, used to stop just as you were pulling out from a junction

I'm fairly sure you can turn it off at the speedo anyway can't you? Unless that's just until you lock up the van? :-)

It's a button on the dash in the Focus, but it resets when you stop the engine normally. It doesn't work at all if the battery is low, or failing :(

I think my front battery isn't good enough to engage it.

Pushing the clutch in takes the weight off the gearbox so makes the turning over of the engine easier.

I don’t see it as much of a problem I driven over the years I have driven every thing from ride on mowers trucks buses and construction plant upto 135 ton crawler crains and even my auto TOYOTA you have to press brake pedal to start it’s nothing new to have start inhibitors the only time I find it annoying is when doing a service and have to get in to start it
