Rerouting wiring

Postby chuffstix » Tue Feb 27, 2018 9:42 pm

Has anyone had any success rerouting the wiring in the Mk 8? I'd much rather have it going behind the panelling where it's out the way, but I don't want to be cutting and soldering if possible. Seems like such a cop out to have it in the plastic trunking.

I gave a lot of thought to this for my camper conversion. And yes I completely agree the standard wiring route is rubbish.

I decided in the end to leave it where it is though. There are just too many wires to mess about with cutting, plus the branches for the loadspace lights, right rear light cluster etc. In the end I used plastic conduit, and carpeted over. A bit of pfaff, but it looks fine.

Pic shows conduit channel bottom left just above shelf, then on the right the section in unbuilt cupboard yet to be put in conduit.

Had same problem on my conversion mine been a bus it does not have the trunking it is just in plastic clips as the front part of my conversion still uses the bus roof lineing it is hidden for the rest of the van I boxed it in behind the locker after “ p” clipping it to the side of the van to make it smaller I looked at moveing it behind the steel work but there are too many strengthening members to pass the plugs thro

By the way, I didn't use the black trunking that came with the van. I removed that and found the narrowest stuff I could that the wires fitted in.

Thanks guys, it doesn't look so bad when you use smaller trunking, looks like that's where I'll be putting the cupboards then! Wonder why Ford use such massive trunking in the first place?

That’s what I thought about the size of the clips on mine was way to big

I'm tempted to give rerouting a go. Looks like all the wiring to the rear clusters (and sliding door sensor) are wired into connectors, so it might just be a case of taking the rear lights out, unplugging everything (only 5/6 plugs?) and putting it back through a conduit down the large gap at the top of the van.
I'll still need to bring the cabling back into the cargo space at the back door pillars, as I don't think the holes there are big enough for the plugs. I'm only going to try it if I can do it without cutting and re-connecting anything.
I'll give it a go when the snow stops (again!) and post some pictures. Can't be the only one wanting to do this.
