Spare wheel falling off!!

Postby Wesleymk8 » Tue Apr 17, 2018 8:47 pm

So I was driving to my suppliers today when I heard a loud bang, continued to drive until it was safe to pull over. Walked round the van to fin the spare wheel on the floor at the rear of my van being dragged by what seems like some sort of safety cable. On closer inspection I can see the steel cord that goes from the rear of the van to the wheel to higher and lower it had snapped on the wheel end. Does anyone know if the steel cable can be bought individually?

Throw the wheel in the back and ratchet it to the wall , it’s easy to steal from underneath and I wouldnt be the one lying under my van on the hard shoulder trying to remove the wheel from underneath

If you have a look on eBay you can buy the assembly

I reckon I should change my username as I actually own a mk 8 now. So those links are for what I used to have.

This is the 1990s people don't carry spares around anymore
Do you carry a spare pair of nickers incase you sh*t yourself?
Thought not
Get yourself a tin of tyre sealant

Tyre sealant is crap most tyre centre will not repair puncture if you use it and it you damage a tyre in some of the potholes we have to run over nowadays you can be stranded in the middle of nowhere as for cable snapping on a mk8 not very good unless someone has tried to nick it

My custom comes from the factory with tyre sealant and a pump ,no spare
Spares are for pussies

See what you mean spares are for proper transits :D :D but been seriously the only reason all the manufacturers surely vans and cars with the can and pump is for cheapness
For me most of the punctures I have had have been in forests on car rally’s and put a hole in them that only putting a spare wheel on would get me out of trouble

I've never had a spare on any of the arswashers because of where the tank is
And on about 15 years and 3 arswaheres I've only ever had one go down on me :P
Tin of shitto soon fixed it and all was good
I don't think an 18"wheel will fit under the custom that's why sports don't come with a spare init?
Whereas you tubby non sporting types have a diddy spare under there
But if you drive around places prone to punctuation like Scotland ,,,,
