slow heated screen 2017 Sport 2.0

Postby hoggyf » Tue Feb 20, 2018 1:38 pm

Anyone else have a crap heated screen? Mine does work but its very slow and barely clears a bit of condensation never mind a proper hard frost.
This is the 3rd Custom I've had and each one the screen has been worse than the previous one, the other day I had to sit for a bout 7 or 8 mins to be able to clear the screen, think I heated it 4 times before it would clear (no I'm not scraping it, thats for peasants  ) havent been back to the dealer yet

Maybe you need more power? I've got 2 batteries and my screen is fairly decent it'll be totally clear before it switches off :-)

I have a second alternator setup there too I haven't got the pulley belt connected tho but I wonder if they'll help it along? :P

Some ppl have said that the standard Ford batteries are shocking especially with the other power demands and stop start etc.

I would be surprised if it was anything like dry joints or inefficiency causing it :?

I’ve thought that they were getting slower over the years, but I thought it was my expectations growing rather than the screens getting worse.

Even if it's only a relatively hard frost my screen times out before any ice has melted. If it's below -5 it needs several cycles before the screen is clear. All my previous cars have all had the same problem however I had a transit custom on loan the other week and the heated screen was a huge improvement on mine.

Mine certainly isn't as fast as my mondeo that I had before the Transit.
I wondered if it was due to the size of the screen being bigger, but maybe not

My screen is shite, one half worked, then the other, then the other, then it all worked, now none of it works! What i will say is when it did all work it was really quick. There is no bigger pain in the arse than scrapeing a heated screen that doesnt work! Ive had a mechanic look at it,the connectors are in the pillar trims either side, both seem a good fit and well connected, and its not the fuse, my lane keeping system is playing up too ,not sure if theyre connected problems, only way around it is to smash it and claim for a new one, unbelievably theyr over a grand for a new one!

This morning wasn't too bad, one heat cycle of about 2 mins and it cleared with the wipers, my van is only 4 months old, my old 63plate was much much faster to clear the screen, the 64 plate was crap like this one is. Now just thinking about it the 63 plate did have twin batteries for winter starting????
