Not starting

Postby dan1983 » Tue Feb 20, 2018 8:51 pm

Hi i have a 2014 transit custom which broke down last friday. For a few weeks before i kept getting a message saying fuel filter blocked but had no symptoms and it would pop up maybe every 2 days then go away. On friday the van broke down and had to be towed back to my house. I thought it would be an easy fix and changed the fuel filter but still will not start. I believe it may be full of air but mechanic has told me they have self bleeders and believes it may be the pump in the fuel tank. Any suggestions before i go ahead and have the tank removed????

Thanks

Sounds like what happened to me a few months back and ford took 3 days to find the fault and it turned out to be the fuel pump.....

I’ve not changed a fuel pump on the custom but I’d be very surprised if you have to remove the tank!!

Most just need to be unbolted from the tank, removed and changed, new filter, re gasket and back it goes. Make sure the fuel lines are de pressurised though! A friend got a face full changing his pump out.... dangerous!

Let me know if I’m wrong as I won’t be trying that one on the custom...... it would be a crap design if the whole tank had to come off though!

If you don't mind me asking, how much did ford charge you.

You could test the pump by cycling the key with the fuel drain open on the filter, a bucket and small pipe will contain some of the mess!

Just tried and no fuel is coming through, can't even hear anything from the pump in the fuel tank.
