Phone Ford Customer Relationship Centre on 0203 564 4444 (option 3) they are very helpful and got my van sorted both times I was getting the run around from my local Ford dealer.

Funny thing is that backdoor on my Custom has strted acting up - its very hard to open, there is so much resistance somewhere in the hinges. You can specialy feel it on warmer days. I have been lubricating hinges at least twice a year so thats not the problem. I think it has something to do with the rust on the hinges. Ford will be Ford...

Just happened to me on my 2013 LWB, insurance didn't even need to see it and approved the repair without issue. I will send the photograph to our local Ford dealer and see what they say. They are used to the van as it has had 2 driveshafts, 4 universal joints, new clutch master cylinder, new horn!

I got told today that fords fix on later vans is that they have adjusted the wings and bonnet forward so the door/wing gap is bigger, i have seen them with a gap and initially thought it was 1 that had been repaired.

 Have you complained to Ford that the passenger door swinging open violently, was the cause of the front end damage to your van :?:

The check straps are shorter, so the doors don't open as far. So they have less time to build up momentum.

Can we buy the check straps and fit them ourselves?

Almost certainly, you'll probably need the vin from a current van so the parts guy can order the correct ones.

Ford used to give away free badges under 10 year warranty, these badges are about 30 pounds each to buy (transit size)

Afaik they will repair doors on customs that have the old check straps 2013/14 i guess, which have gotten damaged.(albeit with am arguement and long waiting list).

You would think that they'd be offered free supply.
You'd also think that the dealers would be trusted enough by Ford to do warranty repairs without the lengthy request to Ford for it.

It would be a lot less hassle for ppl to buy the straps and do it quickly and it be done with but this is very poor from Ford/dealers.

Very poor.

I'm not bitter :P

Oh i also got told the way to fix bent hinges is to put a small block of wood behind the hinge and close the door.

If anyone with a late model vin number or access to the parts catalogue can help, we'd all appreciate it..

I tried mine but it said not found :-(

Can someone with a custom that knows it has older straps take a measurement of the door fully open? Also a pic of where they have measured, it'll help ppl i think.

Also has anyone thought about modifying the straps so they have limited movement? Why buy new ones? :-)

Sure, it's ~114cm from the end of the door latch loop on the body, to the edge of the door fully open. On the door I measured flush with the door, the nearest point to where the cut out is for the door latch.

If that makes sense :)

That's on a H1L1 2013.
