Fuel economy

Postby adrianbowron » Sat Feb 15, 2014 11:44 pm

Has anyone had any economy problems with this award winning van, because I only get 25.6 miles to the gallon.
Although I just nock about in it! Just short trips 5 miles stop 10 miles stop 2 miles stop and so on. The dealer said I should wait until there is 2000 miles on the clock and it will get better, at the time I was complaining that it was only doing 29.8 miles to the gallon and now it's worse.
Before someone tells me I don't race around, and there's not that much weight in the back

My 125bhp limited double cab 310 LWB is averaging 35mpg after 2000 miles, I've seen 42mpg on a trip to Preston and back on the motorway. My general journeys are all short, stop start trips and often with a cold engine and the van is always full of all my work gear in the back (about 250-300kgs loaded)
I know many people here complain about consumption and I borrowed a dealer double cab for a week before I bought mine which even with 4000 miles wasn't as economical as mine is now
The hav
Nod book does offer two different tyre pressure settings, one for comfort, the other for better economy, at the expense of a choppy ride, just check your tyre pressures as it will make a difference

Thanks for the tip and I've done this today at 54 psi for 215/65/R 15 C and will test it out this next week. I have read some other threads that recommend disconnecting the earth lead on the battery to reset something in the engine management system, has anyone tried this ?.

With regards to different tyre pressures i have overinflated all my vehicles for a long time now and i allways get better mileage than people with same vehicles some can take a bit more than others just keep an eye on tyre wear i think that's a good indication of how much to over inflate ...

Agreed, the lower powered ones seem to be worse on the fuel than the 155's.

Not really as there's the possibility of it either being spotted or wiped when they plug if in , it's a risk you run . I waited until my first sportvan was out of warranty ... Was epic after !

My 125lwb has done now 900miles and just filled it up and the avarage is 34mpg, which makes me happy as its better then on my 5-speed 110hp mk7. Hoping that after few thousand miles it will improve. Cant belive those official figures as they are calculated in a laborotory by few nerds who have never driven the custom
