Our New Custom and our "Custom" Racking

Postby josefhomes » Thu Mar 20, 2014 10:37 am

Hi Guys

Well, The Vito is gone (and when I say gone, it wont be long before it is in van heaven) and the New Transit Custom is with us. Incidentally it seem far too difficult to find a decent commercial vehicle dealer anywhere, believe me we tried. After testing the Traffic, Transporter (very nice but very expensive), Vivaro and the "old" Transit - we decided on the Custom.... One of our favourites anyway and it is one good looking Van.
After much deliberation with the old van about racking we decided to do it from the off for the custom and put our thinking caps on. we mainly deal with property refurbishment and investment stuff so we literally got every tool we use from stores and started to pile it together, then realising that if we had the old 8x4 Sheet (2440mm x 1220mm for you metric peeps) you would either block your tools and materials or have to lift up the board to get at anything, Very Annoying :x :x So We built a Sub Floor allowing the sheets and longer materials to flow freely underneath the loading area not disturbing our tools and materials, then built the shelves around the tools allowing for extras and went to town.... we carry furniture as well so we decided to carpet the floor and the side to minimise scratches during transit (no pun intended :D ), we built in removable floor panels for ease of access underneath and for those taller items and added chequer plate for safety, corner protection and Voila!!

I will attach Photos when I have figured out how!!!

Have you fitted an Inverter for the 240v sockets?

For now we have utilised the inverter under the handbrake, but hopefully we will fit a more powerful one in due course

At the min it is 150w which is good to charge drills whist en-route to a job, or a small grinder
Future plans to go up to 1500w or 2000w to use bigger stuff

Cheers

Cheers dude. Flaming ought to be for the time it took and cost. Can't wait to see it mind.

Word of warning. ?.... A False floor can cause problems with fitting apparently.
