LED lights, nice, but the the hell do you switch them on/off

Postby peninsulalawncare » Wed Jun 11, 2014 8:59 pm

O.k maybe i'm being really stupid here, but is there anyway to turn the load compartment LED lights on and off without closing and opening the door obviously. The reason i'm asking is we do quite a few jobs where we leave the van doors open and i'd like to be able to turn the LED's off to save them using (all be it a tiny amount) the battery. Also me and missus will be doing a bit of camping and would like to be able to turn the lights on when inside.......cheers all.

I bought a little switch from maplins and connected it to the feeds of my LEDs. As the switch has double terminals I could do both LED independently from the one switch, ran the wires down the corner pillar to one of the holes that is already there. This is the switch I bought but Black only without light indicator. All it will do is turn the LEDs off and on when they are supposed to be on. It will not give you independent control of the LEDs.

This is the switch is situ.

Sorry have been away for a couple days, cheers for that tassel I might have to try that, I still think it seems pretty silly to not have fitted some kind of control to the LEDs.....

6 months ago to save on battery power while the doors were open, I fitted those blue led bulb in the 2 original light sockets in the cargo roof area rear of my Tranny.2 weeks ago one stopped working last Thursday the second led bulb stopped working... So it a load of old Bo....ks about led bulbs lasting longer than the conventional festoon bulbs or was I just unlucky ?? :(
Ford Transit 280 SWB,,Year 2008,,2.2,, If it can,t be fixed/repaired/ with a 4 pound lump hammer then it must be an electrical problem.

It's all about quality, as an electrician I fit them all the time in homes and offices, I get top quality bulbs that have a 5yr warranty / 50,000 hour life and I've only ever had to replace one in the last 7 years, as they say: you get what you pay for

I knew i'd miss at least one part of my old connect, and the first one is a simple on/off switch....

When the load doors are open and we're working out the back of the van all day.. switch them off...

when i'm inside the van camping with the wife and it's pissing down and cold outside....switch them on...

Aren't they controlled by the rear cab light switch, like my Mk6 :?:

On my DCiV you can turn them on by the centre roof light which does seem pointless unless you just want to look through the little window. As this is the other side of the bulkhead you cant access it if you are in the back and if you are going in the back they come on when you open the rear doors anyway. So I think its more a Torneo Function, to turn all the lights on with the one roof light.

I can see why it would be more necessary in the DCIV, but there really should be the option(or an easy switch!!!) of an on/off in all models.....COME ON!!!!!!?????? :?

Why? whats the point of being able to turn the light on when the only way to get to where the light is on is by opening the rear doors which will turn the lights on anyway.... if you can follow that

I think that the ability to turn them off when not needed was part of the original question, and I'm guessing that the original design of using the rear cab switch was thought out before bulkheads were fitted as standard, preventing access to the switch from the loadspace
