Eberspacher fitted to new Custom

Postby RussC73 » Tue Sep 16, 2014 8:28 pm

I fitted my recently purchased Eberspacher D2 auxiliary heater to my new custom, the job was fairly straight forward as the heater hit was complete with wiring looms, fuel lines and pump.
I purchased a little fuel tank which I bolted to the end of my racking.
Once I had located the best area to install the heater I cut out the required holes and bolted the heater to the floor under the passenger seat.
I then installed an adjustable vent outlet into the steal box section of the passenger seat as well as the air intake in the plastic side section.
The hot air hoses were split between the cab and the cargo area, an additional vent outlet was mounted into the bulkhead near the side loading door.
So now I can channel the hot air between can and rear... Cool!
The timer was then installed into the plastic side section of the passengers seat, this avoids having to drill the dash and mess about lifting the floor to lay cables.

Anyway here are some pictures, the exhaust and silencer will be wrapped in a heat resistant bandage just as soon as it's delivered.

Russ, you have done a fab job there.

How much was the D2, and where did you get the fuel tank from?

Hi Andy

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181396976482

Purchased the D2 from a good seller on eBay, cost me around £500, also purchased the 60mm heater hose and the vents, the seller still selling quality refurb D2's on eBay.

Andy, you won't regret it... Camped out this weekend in the van and the heater came in very handy!

Bit of a zombie, but I just wondered if you were happy with your setup still, Russ? A friend of mine is convinced you should put the heater outside, but the destructions tell me otherwise.. Also, mine came with a kit for plumbing straight into the fuel tank, to the secondary outlet (which is a PITA because fuel tank must be dropped etc etc). I can't quite work out from your pic where you have that little fuel tank fitted? Are you still convinced a secondary tank is the best thing? Ta

I had one fitted to the underside f the van and Set it up direct into the fuel tank. This was fitted by a conversion company in Cornwall and works really well.
I do like the controller you have, do you know what the part no. is as I only have a very simple on and off with a turn knob to set the heating which you have to guess the temp as it dosent have a display
Your install looks good

The Wellhouse Eber is fitted underneath the van and seems to work well but I worry that over a long period of time it will be more likely to be affected by the elements /salt spray etc . The only mod I made was to fit an uprated marine silencer
Kiravan seem to be offering a very similar heater but at a much lower price than the Eber.
I too am interested in the timer as the standard fitting is simply on/off . I have not used the blown air only mode -lets hope we have a good summer to try it out!

Your mate is probably thinking about the D5W water heater that heats up the engine water system that BT had on some of the early transits some in engine bay and some under n/s/f step I have had my D3 under the bunk for the last 8 years with no problems at all if it had been under the van I think it would have been deed by now :D
