Power folding mirrors

Postby Bull Bus » Sun Oct 26, 2014 11:30 am

Can any owners advise me if the power folding mirrors automatically fold in when you lock the van, or do you have to do it at the switch before you lock up? Thanks.

im thinking of designing a circuit to do this automatically

its on my list of to-do's just below: designing a circuit so the electric windows still work for a minute after removing the key!

Thanks for the answer guys. Don't know why they couldn't have designed it to automatically fold them...

I'm very disappointed that it doesn't do it and that the "auto" headlights don't come on when you unlock the van at night

Normal cars have that option as coming/leaving lights but Ford decided to do only half of the option

Yup. After 3000 km I'm used to the long gears but I still have to turn the key back on to close the windows. This should be modified. Could it be done with a complementary software update?

I don't think that the windows are linked to anything clever

My mirrors powerfold on the switch with or without the ignition being on.

My lights stay on after locking, but don't come on when unlocking.

I fitted a device in a previous Nissan than made the mirrors fold on locking and unfold on unlocking.

I'm sure it can be made to fit to our custom.... I'll have a look and pop the link up so anyone with electrical knowledge can advise if it can be made to work.

It worked perfectly on our previous QQ. Took about 10 minutes to install, may be worth a punt for 70 quid? I'm sure it can be made to work by someone with an electrical brain. I'd love to have it in my van.

My power fold works with me sat in the van, ignition off, key out and doors locked. I didn't check to see if that was permanent ie. battery saver locks out after 30 mins or something, i may check sometime.

It suggests that a simple timer relay circuit may be used and link the windows/mirrors/deadlocks so that we have windows without key and mirrors fold on deadlock.

I thought about mirrors fold timed without key might work but the drawback would be that you might want it instant on deadlock?

Also, without a further enhancement (lockout) of the circuit after first deadlock, every time you press the deadlock button on the remote it'll open or close the mirrors, might be a good or bad thing I'm not sure yet.

Lastly, i haven't seen the mirror module or door licking/windows modules so i can't say whether there is a simpler solution ie swapping for a Mondeo 1?? Someone else suggested that.

(I am guessing that they are powered differently on Mondeo and have different can bus arrangement?) Transit power strategy shows live to mirrors which seems similar to the mk7 but that's all I've seen, can bus staying active??
Need More info. :-)

Connect mirrors fold on locking, maybe have a look at one of those for some hints?

New connect? Boggles me why Ford would consider it a good idea on those but not on the custom?
