Transit Custom double cab load length

Postby Technospod » Fri Oct 31, 2014 3:15 pm

Hi, I am looking at the Custom CREWVAN FORD 290 LWB DOUBLE CAB LIMITED - 2.2 TDCI 155PS DIESEL, but I need to know the max load length at mid height in the back and the max towing weight as I need to tow a caravan with it. Ford seem to be blowing some smoke on this and state 1904mm at a height of 1.2m, but I need that confirmed. i think the bulkhead curves out and this is not he real world load length to the inside of the doors? Can anyone confirm the load length before I press the buy button, could be an expensive mistake! Thanks.

Just a guess, but I reckon max trailer weight will be around 1200kg on a 290, less if the van is fully loaded

Max towing weights for 290 L2 155, 2300 kg for 155, 2350 kg for 155 with auto start/stop, Sorry , can't help re the load length, I have a SWB. Go to a dealer and have a look, what ever it costs in time and fuel, its cheaper than making a mistake.

according to the catologue L2H1 dciv, USABLE load length at 1.2m height on bulkhead is 1872mm

It says 'usable' in the catologue which probably means it leaves some space. So maybe your ford dealer went out to a vehicle with a tape measure and measured from the bulkhead to the doors to get the extra 32mm.

Go to the ford website and download the catologue, the dimensions are on page 21. Or as a poster said go to a dealer with a tape measure, they should be happy to let you do what you want

In the brochure it says all L2 vans (apart from 100ps models) are max 2800kg. Unless it has been updated

Yes Yasser, you are correct, there has been an up date, in ford publication 1573/2 dated march 2013 it gives the towing weights as 2300/2350 kg as I posted , but in ford publication 1573/3 dated november 2013 it gives it as 2800 kg as you stated, Don't know if there has been a spec change , or a re vamp of the maths calculation used .

Just measured my L2 DCiV and the length behind the bulkhead to the back doors is 1855mm at approximately 600mm height. That length does improve at floor level because of the shape of the bulkhead and it does improve above 800mm height because of the shape of the rear door. These improvements in length are no more than 50mm depending on where you put the measure.

Long DCIV? It's more than 1600! My 2 metre level fits! I can get 2.4 lengths across the diagonal but not loaded straight.

I get 6 bikes in easily, no need for diagonal..... but motorbike would need to be tried, personally I think it will be fine but nothing beats a "try on for size" ;)

Yeah L2 DCIV, just nipped out and measured, a little over 1900 on the floor.

My mistake I've got a false floor and measured at the wrong point to begin with!
