DPF system

Postby moley551 » Wed Dec 02, 2015 9:42 am

This question is really aimed at Ford Technicians or the otherwise enlightened. Is there a full description of the DPF/fuel system, there is info online for various manufacturers systems giving more in depth information inc Fords but none match the Custom exactly.
Just trying to gain a deeper understanding not start a bun fight... :D

No nothing wrong, I can find general answers but not exactly the system fitted to the Custom...my van used to regen something like every 50 miles or twice a day, Ford (Vospers) said that's normal!! Now the van is going really well and it regens less than once per tank 650miles and only lasts a few minutes. I'm just curious what the parameters are really....now looking at replacing the van and various systems are on the market?

I've got a euro 5 dpf wiring diagram if you want it?

There's 2 factors that affect the system and I'd say, running in of the engine and driving types.
Lots of cold starts and many stop starts aren't good for it generally, nice long runs are good on the whole as it gets the engine hot and helps keep the system cleaner.

Basic components are.

Dpf
Dpf differential pressure sensor
Exhaust gas temperature sensor 1
Exhaust gas temperature sensor 2
Heated oxygen sensor
Fuel vaporizer system pump
Fuel vaporizer glow plug
Vaporizer glow plug monitoring

Just out of interest does a light come on the dash to say it's regenerating.
Cause I dont think it's ever happened on my van.
Not that I'm worried about it.

No, the light only comes on if there's a problem (it's blocked). I don't notice mine doing a regen either, unlike the MK7 which did it about once a week and sounded like a V8 when it did.

Any way to turn it on permanently? 8)

Probably, but there are already enough complaints about the mpg on the Custom

Has anyone seen the "light" Vospers told me that mine was 97% blocked (what%will trigger the light) I didn't have any warnings or lights.
The OM just says drive normally 1500-1800 rpm and it will sort itself out, doesn't say anything about lights. The Peugeot/Shitreon system gives warnings and tells you to drive faster....bla bla.
Do Ford not include something like a flowchart in the tech manual...example
Over 1/4 tank of fuel
Coolant temperature over xx°c
No stored fault codes
Dpf temp above xx°c and below xx°c
Pressure differential X Mb
Maximum or Minimum regen time
Probably 50 more I can't think of.

Perhaps mine does it all the time as well then.
Don't want to be left out.

Us poor folk in Vans with only half of the exhaust might be getting the full benefit of a V8 with side pipes unlike the bus drivers

As well as the extra exhaust noise, the idle goes up to 950-1000rpm the fuel flow also goes up (doubles at idle) the throttle response changes.....its not that noticeable at speed unless you slow down for roundabouts or junctions at motorway speeds you could easily miss it. I doubt if my van has done more than 300miles on motorways in 2 years or 40k

Does the Rev needle rise and fall on idle? Mine did this yesterday for the first time... Pulled over and restarted and it seemed fine
