anti theft wheel nuts...key lost

Postby arf33 » Sat Feb 06, 2016 1:09 am

hi all...

on my tourneo all the wheel are fitted using also one anti theft nut...no problem right ?

no...unfortunately on the van I cannt find the key to unmount them...I didn't check when I get the van last december.
at the dealer they said "we don't have all the available keys, so the way is to leave the van...and we punch (hammer etc etc) every nut...so it's a long job...maybe the alloys could be damaged...bla bla bla...

- expensive
- damage risk

why to pay someone else to have the wheels (probably) scuffed ? ... I will do it myself...sure.

the problem is that the anti theft nut is not solid, the round part where I suppose to punch is an indipendend part...so can rotate by hand...no way to punch it or weld a nut outside

nightmare

someone can share experiences ?

anyway...thanks :(

Does the outer ring just spin as that can be smashed off then you might be able to hammer a socket on and use that or drill out the stud using a sharpened masonary bit

When my van arrived they lost the key for the wheels so they just used a key which seemed to fit everything as they had them replaced with a new set in 10 minutes

If you bought the van new from a dealer then:
1. The key SHOULD have been in the van from the factory
2. They WILL have a record of the locking key number and CAN order you a new key
3. There should be the key number in the handbook pack along with main key number and radio codes
So either way you can get a replacement

Hi
Ford used a master key on my sport when i had my tires changed and they could not find my key.
Wish they had cut them off and put some descent looking ones on!

I will check in the handbook folder...hoping to find something

NOTE: I went to 2 official Ford dealer...both said "no way...only hammer, punching, time"

I'm so scared of dealer like those...

I broke my key taking a wheel off for first time (cause they are the shi**est locking wheel nuts ever).
Asked ford and was just told we don't deal with them.
You got to get them direct from locking wheel nut company.
Can I have the number for them, oh I don't know look it up.
About as helpful as a chocolate teapot.
When you get them off throw in bin and get some decent ones.
Might be ok for a ka, not a commercia vehicle.

you should always buy a spare key with these vehicles so you have 2. Even if you just change you wheel set once and then look at the key you will see that it gets slightly damaged. Sods law dictates that it will brake when you need it the most........in the middle of nowhere and no signal. I think its £22 vat from Ford(Rip off).

Snapon and Irwin do sockets that are supposed to remove damaged nuts. Wether they actually work is unknown.

I had to remove my one with no key

The locking nut removers done nothing.
Ended up drilling and chiselling.
Made a few marks on alloys as was unavoidable.

Leave the van in Liverpool overnight. Removing locking wheel nuts is not a problem there, (allegedly).

mcguard nuts don't looks as the OEM ones...unfortunately.

in the car books no good news...nothing like code or cards with codes...nothing.

I'm starting to think that the only way will be to drill the studs...long job, but seems the only possibility with no risk to damage the wheels and more important...for free

obviously I need first to buy 4 new studs

Most decent tyre changers have tools to remove locking nuts.
