Bulkhead window

Postby dunf » Sat Aug 13, 2016 8:02 pm

If anyone would like to know how easy /difficult this is, I fitted one today. Took about 25 mins from start to finish. Cut the liner out with a Stanley knife, then cut the same shape out the bulkhead with an airsaw. Fitted an 'S' seal to the edge (950mm long). Used the removed piece of bulkhead as a template for cutting a piece of grey tinted acrylic (add 5mm all round, so just use a chisel tip marker pen). Fitted acrylic into the seal. Done. The seal and acrylic cost about £6.50.

Nice job! Looks very oem and professional.

My dciv has one as standard, are they a specified option at build or do different versions have different spec?

Very neat job.
I am planning to do the same thing.
What thickness is the acrylic and the S seal.
I googled S seal, there is loads of different sizes, important to get the right fit.
If i was living near you, it is you who would be doing it for me

Looks great. Probably a better view to the traffic behind you than the factory fitted one. Those are too small, too low.

The trouble with a window in the bulkhead when you haven't got glazed rear doors is the reflection of oncoming traffic in the rear view mirror.

Use this S seal - http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/pdf/SWR149DS.pdf

Use 3mm thick acrylic.

The S seal quotes a glass gap and a panel gap but they're interchangeable. After I cut the bulkhead out I taped around the edges of the liner and the bulkhead together. This way the gaps in the seal linked above are compatible. It's not that critical mind, it's not a weatherproof window after all.

Hi Yasser, why would you have a rear view mirror without glazed rear doors? Just curious.

Postby blancowallart » Thu Jan 12, 2017 5:24 pm

Hi just wondered if anyone on here has brought a satime nav radio for mk7 transit and which one you'd recommend? Cheers

I'm thinking of doing the same as you. The passenger shoulder seat belt anchor point won't be compromised by cutting a hole in the bulkhead will it?
