Transit mk8 & Custom Security Issue !!!

Postby paul2012 » Wed Nov 23, 2016 8:38 pm

Transit mk8 & Custom Security Issue   :!:

It appears that the problem with security on mk7's also affects both mk8's & Custom.

How easy is it to gain entry to a custom & drive away with it ??

See vid here to find out  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srZO9090urg

I will NOT disclose information on what tool / OBD device used in above video.
I can say they are widely available to buy online.

Yes, I have been meaning to get this sorted....

Is this a quick solution do you think?

I wouldn't even bother with that. Not secure at all :(

I would suggest this one here  http://www.tvl-ltd.co.uk/content/ecuobd ... ion-device.

Has anybody heard anything about people cutting holes in the roof to nick stuff? I've had deadlocks fitted so thought I was fairly safe, but now I've heard about this!
Is it true? Apparently the roof is thin enough to use tin snips on and I've been told it's now so common that there's a shortage of roofs.

If they have enough time, and can make noise, then nothing will keep them out permanently. It's all about making your van harder to break into, and/or steal, than the next one, so any extra security could be worth while.
My Hykee door lock was enough to prevent mine being broken into just a few nights ago, I have CCTV pictures of two undesireables walking around the back of the van and trying the back door, going to the drivers door to unlock it, and the back door, with a bump key, and staring for a few seconds at the upgraded lock before walking away. The van is only parked 4 feet from my front door, and under 3 security cameras :!:

I've seen pictures of vans with holes in the roof, side doors bent down double, and rear doors jemmied open, but those vans are probably not parked up near any watchful eyes, and possibly no decent alarm fitted :?

I'll be getting a Clifford or Cobra OBD alarm for me van, with warn away to protect the lock being picked and being able to program a new key and driving the van away.

Anything will help, but if someone's going to the bother of cutting a hole in the roof, not much will stop

A friend had his van stolen and they used the OBD port to bypass the immobiliser (they think). So I got an OBD lock fitted. It was £105.00 and I fitted it myself. Took about 30 mins, there's no way they will get to the plug, they would have to cut the wires and refit a new plug. I suppose it's a delaying deterrent over a fully anti theft device.

To be honest, if the van is parked up for any length of time then I have a steering disc lock as well. If they want it that bad then they'll get it somehow. It's all about making it as hard as possible I suppose.
