Newbie requires a little advice please

Postby Puerto » Mon Jan 16, 2017 7:08 pm

Hi all, newbie here and hoping that some of your good selves could possibly give me some buying advice.

I'm after a new van as my old smiley face has finally given up and gone to the old scrap yard in the sky.

I've driven one of the new shape customs on hire and absolutely loved it. So as you can appreciate I'm after one !

I've had a quick look around and the amount of models is mind boggling. Can anyone give me some advice of which model to hunt for or even avoid ?

I would like a model with heated seats and steering wheel if there is such a thing on these, as my old bones and white finger really benefit from this when driving the wife's car, apart from that the rest is unimportant unless it's worth spending an extra few quid on something special.

Thanks in advance everyone.

I don't think heated steering wheel is an option on any model

Heated seats (driver and outer passenger) are standard on Limited and Sport, not sure if they're an option on lower Trend or base. Heated screen standard on Trend, Limited and Sport.

Thanks folks, shame about the steering wheel, they really are a brilliant invention.

Might sound daft but what's the main differences between the Trend, Limited & Sport versions? Also, I'm going to start viewing a few this weekend so could anyone advise me of things in particular to look out for? I.e. Better engine choice or common issues etc.
I think I read that there can be water ingress somewhere?

I know I'm being very lazy and the answers are likely already posted on this forum, but I really do appreciate any help and advice as hopefully this will be my last van if it gives me as much back as my old smiley, so I wouldn't mind paying the extra for one that hasn't been abused or neglected if you know what I mean.

Thanks everyone.

Great idea that Steve. I'm not sure about the cables not getting tangled though.

range rover and Mini are 2 cars i've been in with a heated steering wheel, the Mrs was so blown away by the feature she wanted to buy the bloody car on the spot for the steering wheel! Mental.

My car has a heated steering wheel, it's bloody marvellous. Would love it on my Sport.

I totally agree lofty. I've got a touch of white finger from years of power tool use, and it's awsome, especially in the winter.

I think if your looking for a good spec you need to go for the Limited as a minimum. I went all out and got a Sport, simply because I liked the look of them, they certainly don't offer the best value for money though. I've drove Renaults for the last 12 years or so and they served me very well, however the Custom is a much nicer place to be

Thanks for the brochure BigJohn, just the ticket.
Also thanks again Lofty, looking at the brochure I'd have to agree, although after a quick search in autotrader, the sports seem quite rare in comparison to the limited. I do like the looks of the sports though.

I can imagine the wife's face if I pulled on the drive with one, she'd think I was having a late mid life crisis!
