Insurance for remapped Tourneo

Postby cjohnsonuk » Mon Feb 20, 2017 9:04 am

Anyone had any luck or lack of luck getting insurance for a remap?
I'm looking at going from 155 to 200 using Celtic as we got much better economy when we did something similar with our previous VW going from 101 to ~ 130. That was a camper and the insurance company (camper specific) just marked it on the policy with no increase in premium. I just called Hastings (where I have my multicar policy) and they said "no" as they only do up to +26% on the BHP and 155-200 is 29%.

Has anyone got any recommendations for companies that will insure remapped Tourneos?

You will be lucky to see 200ps from a remap Celtic are known for exaggerated claims, you will almost definitely be in the +26% bracket or more likely towed by the AA :D

I've got a list of mods as long as my arm, all insured with Aviva. You will have to give them a call though.

Don't quote them a BHP figure next time.... they are all pie in the sky anyway as stated above. Celtic are world famous for it, across all makes and models. It gets them a lot a business from number hunting customers.

Loads of companies out there that deal in remapped cars, i'd cancel and move if the figures work out.

You're lucky if you can get insurance on a tourneo at all - never mind a modified one! most of the 15-20 companies I spoke to wouldn't touch 8or9 seaters at all, one that would told me if I folded down any of my foldable seats would invalidate the insurance!
Be interesting to hear where you go with in the end

And just to check - you currently have it insured with Hastings?
I just rang them - car department won't touch it 'cos it's a van - van department won't touch it 'cos it has more than 6 seats. Van department also won't touch it if you take any seats out - counts as modified!!!!!!

Hastings gave me a quote for my Tourneo with 8 seats online. It was car insurance and not van. They where also one of the cheapest.

Not Hastings, Admiral. My mistake. I knew there was a nautical theme but I was rushing to get out to work

I have had a few where you get an online quote but when you ring to confirm they suddenly can't quote any more

I've trawled compare the market and moneysupermarket tonight got plenty of quotes for the cmax but only one for the Torneo with a remap at £550.
Can anyone else help with some broker suggestions?

£550 do you consider that expensive?

Yes, go and see a local one, sit at a desk with a human being, you'll be amazed how simple it is.

Its Social, domestic and commuting, not business use
We're in Sheffield, not sure how that affects the premium but I guess its cheaper than down south.

I think thats about £150 more than we paid last year, although that was a multi car policy.

What worries me is that there was only ONE quote between compare the market and money supermarket so if they stop next year I'll not be able to get any insurance.

and re

"go to see a broker" : If I have to take a day off work to see a broker that adds another days pay to the cost of the insurance. I might try calling one from work.
