Make your Custom a lot more secure for free!

Postby stchris356 » Tue Mar 07, 2017 12:02 am

Hi Boys and girls,
Myself and a colleague got together to make our new Customs more secure as it became apparent that it was easy to unlock the whole van with a lock pick or screwdriver by forcing the whole door lock to rotate enough for the central locking to globally unlock all doors and disarm the alarm (where fitted).

This simple modification only allows the drivers door to be opened with the key blade and if fitted the alarm will trigger.

What you need to do is remove the driver's door card, no need to disconnect anything, just let it hang by the wires.
Carefully peel back the membrane (I used a Stanley blade to cut the sealant so you can re-stick it) to expose the black multi plug for the door lock module.
Peel back the black tape on the connector when removed, to expose the wires.

Cut the second wire up on the plug (viewed in it's connected position), insulate the wires, reconnect and refit the membrane and door panel.

Everything works exactly the same on the van except when you unlock the door with the key, only the driver's door will unlock and the rest of the van remains deadlocked and alarm (if fitted) still armed, the alarm will be triggered when the door is open but can be silenced by turning the ignition on.

Operation with the fob buttons is exactly the same.

In essence, what you have done is disabled the global unlock signal from the driver's door lock.

We have now completed this on several vehicles with complete success!

It's your decision weather you do this or not, but I thought I'd share it to make our vans more secure!

They don't have to do that, Once they've unlocked it from the door lock it unlocks all the other doors and turns the alarm off!

But if you disconnect the global unlock the interior button remains disabled !

And when your fob stops working for any reason you also can't get into the rear of the van !!

That's a good trick, that and an upgraded lock would be a better plan

Well presumably the alarm will be going off and the thief won't have the ignition key?

Great job...cheers. just wondering if that wire could be located easily at the steering column for a switch fitment?

Thanks, realistically the best place for a switch would be on the door card at the back end of the door pocket. It crossed my mind too, but just decided to leave it disconnected.

Nice mod. Thanks for the share.
Do we think it will be the same wire on new Transit? (66 plate)
