Transit Custom stereo problems

Postby Stusvan » Wed Mar 15, 2017 11:20 pm

Got a small issue bugging me with my 2012 Transit Custom stereo.
If I turn the stereo on without the ignition it says 1 hour but wont come on?
I do get the little cog symbol on the stereo display and it works fine when driving.
Hoping someone can help

You should get one hour from the press of the button as you say..... if the battery is detected to drop off the radio gets turned off prior to the hour I believe... a sort of failsafe to draining your battery too far to effect starting.

I don't know, but I'm guessing that the battery is already at the point where playing it without the engine on will cause the voltage to drop too low. Just a guess!

If your battery is original then it is almost certainly on its last legs being 2012. I would get a decent brand in there... don't go for a Ford silver calcium! They are woeful. Any reputable make from euro carparts or even Halfords will be cheaper and most importantly better.

Thanks for the info,
I was reading on here about the ford battery's being pants and wondered if that was the issue.
I think I will look into changing to the Yuasa YBX5110 as others have
Im just a bit surprised there's not enough power to run the radio for more than 5mins as I have two batteries!

get them checked if you don't have a meter to hand.... only 1 being bad would be enough.... of course they could run the radio..... its just the failsafe preventing it if the voltage drops below a certain preset.

The fact you have the dual battery does make me think it may be something else... but first things first.... give them a test and see if you have an obvious culprit.

The ford battery is woeful.... I have had issues before in a Galaxy or 2.

Hi is aux battery the main van battery or do you mean another smaller battery in the stereo or something?

No the 2 main ones under the seat.

One handles auxiliary power the other starts. One or both are knackered. Both are certainly crap ;)

Glad you're sorted. You did well to get to 5 years from a Ford battery!

What battery(s) did you go for out of interest? Not the Ford I hope! :D
