Speaker upgrade !?!

Postby Bourney » Wed Mar 22, 2017 7:52 pm

Hi there was just wondering if anybody has managed to fit 5x7 speakers into the door of a transit custom at all. I am looking to upgrade but unable to fit a sub or amp (work van) and want a little bit of bass and thought that 5x7 will give this. Any info appreciated
Cheers.

Most of us have put 6.5" speakers in the door, they fit without any mods and sound better than rectangular speakers.

I have JL's in the Mk7 (not these) following Mikes recommendation, and they are very good, but probably not as good as the round ones in that link

Shame that the Mk7's are elliptical :(

Yes that's right, those speakers are the bottom end of the JL range, but as Al says, they're very good.

So no adapter rings for 165mm speakers in a Custom?

Yes, they'll need rings......the oem has a ring/spacer but it has the Ford 2 pin plug moulded into it......so you have to remove them.

Just use them as a template and make up some rings from mdf or similar and wrap them in sound deadening before fitting.

And the door wont take a 20cm (8") driver without a ring?
