Tpms stuff

Postby bigjohnthomas » Wed Apr 05, 2017 10:08 am

Now then, now then my little electronic chums
I was pumping away the other day
Gets to the front o/s tyre and when you move the valve it goes pisssssst
Its not going down or out but I don't like the look of it
Am I understanding this correctly ?
There's sensor bits fastened on the back of your valve ?
And I can just buy the valve bit off egay and swap the sensor over?
Or do I have to buy a whole new van?

They can leak if you wiggle them . You can buy the valve but I ended up buying the whole lot for £30 . They are supremely fragile and bust at the slightest chance when a tyre is refitted . They are not as robust as the Audi ones I've replaced

Chears dude So it should be ok for a while then?
Its got sh*t tyres on it (hifly's ) and spends its time on the motorway mainly just worry about it having an instant deflation incident
Perhaps I should swap it for one of the rears :)

Ford tpms bypass, try eBay. These sensors in your wheel will all die when their internal batteries go flat... approx 5 years life. If the don't break before that.... I know when my pressure is low visually and the drive. What did we do for the last 100 years without this crap

I've seen an option for tpms in ids but it's v96 your v86 won't work.
I thought you'd get actual pressures but i think it just tells you if you have a flat doesn't it? Just like that rubber rumbling sound you get when you have a flat tyre

Another useful pile of rubbish  turn it off and get 1 of these.

Yeah its most probably more trouble than its worth
And not having a tyre machine its ten quid to get at the sensor
X that by 4 and x that by 30 for a new valve thing
That's five thousand quid
Per wheel
Well £160
I'll have a look at that by pass thing, nice one

Yes all you do is pump your tyres up.
Tell it all is good perfect
Then when one goes down on you
It starts bleeping at you
It did it when I put it on the road after it had been stood a while
Bing bing bing
BING BING BING
BING BING BING
Wasn't even flat think it was about 30psi when it went off

I thought the idea was that TPMS warned you that a tyre was deflating, rather than telling you when it's flat, which as you say is pretty bloody obvious. Being warned about a gradual drop in pressure means that you can probably save the rim and possibly the tyre too.

Think it goes off if it drops by circa 10%

That will be about right
There was around 30psi in one when it came on

Although having said that I don't know what it was set to in the first place

I was kind of joking about it being flat before warning you but the idea of having a visual display of each tyre pressure and maybe temp is more interesting to me than simply a tyre pressure drop, i glance at my tyres regularly and would hope that I'd feel drag before the tyre got on the rim.

Bjt i vaguely recall seeing a tpms setting which was either to pair them or to calibrate them, i wonder if that relates to the pressures all round?

Also have a look on speedo settings for chimes or comfort or something related to tpms.
I don't have it so it's all guesswork on my part I'm afraid :(

You'll need to update your ids to v96 i think.
