DAB ariel

Postby lesw1ll » Thu Apr 13, 2017 10:23 pm

where is the ariel? the reception from the digital radio is pretty poor since i had the roof cut out and an elevating roof fitted. could the lack of metal in the roof area reduce the signal. or is it just poor in this area - central scotland.

I think it uses the std ariel, there was a post about using a VW Polo one, to improve reception or looks? DAB is useless in Cornwall unless you're stationery.

I believe that the DAB ariel on the vans is in the base where the ariel screws on (the ariel for FM). If you have a 2015 onwards Tourneo like mine they have an extra ariel in the rear side window for DAB reception. I don't have the ariel screwed in on mine and the DAB reception is fine.

Maybe someone with a good DAB reception on their van could remove the ariel and see if it makes a difference. As I say mine is different so I might be wrong but I'm sure I read that somewhere.

mine is a 16 plate and all in 1 on the roof . It's been hit a few times in low car parks and the reception now is really bad on all channels even in central london. Removing the Ariel gives me no reception at all.
Did look at a specialist dab Ariel company and the same Ariel ford supply is £60 from them . without spending a lot of money it seems you can't get a small one and you would still need to hard wire it into your stereo

Sounds like I am lucky to have a Tourneo with the extra ariel then. I park my van in a garage which would snap the ariel off every time I reverse out, hence I removed it with no problem. Sorry for the miss information about the base being the DAB ariel!

Heart FM, announced that, I think 10 new transmitters came online today I didn't catch wether that was locally (Cornwall) or a national thing but I've been coast to coast today and DAB was near perfect with just a few glitches :D

I'd like to remove the ariel on mine completely as all ariels looks shite and when offset like the custom they look utter shite!

I found a company that put DAB ariels inside your bumper that are powered and work superbly but too much at 300 odd. Also, I would be left with a problem with the old Ariel and what to do with the base when it's gone. I might try a stubby on there and see how it affects reception. I have a super short stubby on the wife's Mini and the reception on both Dab and FM is unchanged.

It's very area dependent with DAB though as stated. It's pretty good in my neck of the woods now but it was pointless only 6 months ago... I literally received nothing. I'm sure they'll get there eventually.................before they switch the FM off though hopefully!

Just to be clear 'Ariel' is a brand of washing powder, whereas 'aerial' is a thing for receiving radio signals!
You're welcome!

Up until yesterday my aerial was as much use as a box ariel on the roof for DAB.....
