New member help.

Postby Cymru-Dave » Sun Apr 16, 2017 9:37 pm

Hi folks,
Sorry to make this my first post but I'm in dire need of some help, I want to buy a transit but it seems the custom requirements I want cannot be tailored for me. The help I'm after is for some advice on the best way to create the van im after.
I'd like a Limited or Sport spec
Captain front seats
Removable rear seats
Twin glazed side doors
Tail gate
No Bulkhead

Basically I'm after a crew van but without the bulkhead and the rear seats to be removable. It seems difficult to get these requirements. A company called Vantastec have been really helpful helping me spec a van but the closest they can come to is the vas as I'd like but with one sliding door, the issue being something to do with the alarm. Ive also spoken to Bridgend Van Centre and they have basically speccd me a crew van as the bulk head is removable x26 bolts, and the seats can be unbolted, but I need some click in click out seat for ease.

The van will be used for for putting a motorbike in the back and also sleepinh in it while I'm away at event while being able to use it as the main family car to go on trips etc. hence the want for a higher spec cabin etc.

Again apologies for coming straight in with a huge question, this seems my best hope of getting some advice.

There are a few companies (I think) that specialise on converting transits. I know this because I purchased mine from one such company whose specialty is turning them into camper vans. There's no reason they couldn't customise yours accordingly. They import the vans straight off the production line themselves and have a workshop and specialists.

I could be barking up the wrong tree here, but give Roy Wood Transits a try, near Reading..

The Torneo is fully glazed to the back door isn't it? If it is it doesn't quite suit ☹️

Also, stump up the extra cash for a Hykee lock. I wish I'd done it from new.

the reason why its not made is only you wants it like that
However Allcock vehicle conversion's could knock that up no problem
Fifty quid
Would have to be cash though
As my card machine isn't working at the moment if you know what I mean. wink

Why don't you just do it yourself ?

I was told that Roy Wood and their Northern dealer Firth Campers will not do any work on Transit Customs unless you buy the van from them

That's how i want mine :P scared to ask how much tho  i currently have no interior (yes hilti tho) so i need seats, side windows, interior trim and tailgate (not life threatening if i don't get that tho).

I have an idea how much Ford would want tho and i think it's cheaper to buy a salvage van with it in and sell what i don't need.

Sounds very similar to what I have been after. I settled on buying a LWB panel van with a tailgate and then got it converted. Here's what I have learnt so far:

Tailgate - Most vans have the twin rear doors as this is a standard factory fit whereas a tailgate is an optional extra so vans with tailgates are like hens teeth. I had to travel some way to find one but it was worth it!

Captain front seats - No experience with these I'm afraid however a nice option if you can get it. You used to only get these in a Tourneo however I have seen some vans with them in more recently so could this be an optional factory extra? I would assume you could buy these and get them retro-fitted (not sure how hard tho').

Removable rear seats - These are standard in a Tourneo (not sure if this is the same for crew cabs?) I settled on buying three new seats (1 double and 1 single) with floor mounting brackets and am getting them fitted by a local van conversion company next week along with windows in the door, o/s panel and tailgate.

Twin glazed side doors - This was less of a priority for me. I did't want a sliding door on the offside as I would prefer the kids get out on the kerbside. I guess you could by a van with this spec?

No Bulkhead This is easy to remove and sell on.

The only snag with conversions is how amenable the insurance company are - I am waiting on mine to let me know how it affects my policy (& premium!)

Costs as follows:

Seats - £460
Seat fitting - £350
2 x front fixed privacy windows - £270.00 (includes fitting)
1 x privacy tailgate window without wiper - £195.00 (includes fitting)

Hope this helps?
