Wow.

The bulkhead seems to have done its job but the screen and the doors are still obliterated. Glad no one was killed.

Want to make remarks about Michael Caine and blowing bloody doors off etc but I won't.

A gas heavier than air hanging around the floor of his van unable to get out
Mine seems to be sealed better than the tramps mk7 in the back
It soon gets stuffy and hot in there compared to the tramps van
Theres Not enough fart holes in a custom I rekon

Some time ago somebody on here was talking about converting a van to a camper & they mentioned a barbecue, this is why we have a few "silly" gas regs about carrying gas bottles inside vans, I'm surprised it doesn't happen every week down here with the number of half arsed surfer vans and homemade campers....gas lockers and drop holes or the gas will make its own...

Being a plumber and builder etc I need to carry bottles of propane and mapp around. So I keep them in an IP65 rated toolbox for exactly this reason. Any leaks are contained in the box and can't escape into the van.

I mean... what could possibly go wrong?

That seems a very smart solution, but isn't really: Propane has a gaseous Presure off 6,5Bar at 15 Degrees Celcius!
Your IP65 toolbox will not whitstand that kind off Presure by far, so the Propane will leak into your Vehicle just as well.

The only really reliable Method is a hole in the Bottom off the the Toolbox AND the Van, so any leakage will be transportet out off the Vehicle.

I would love to know how the insurance claim goes, my van insurance only permits l kg of gas, I suppose it depends on wether the DCIV is insured for trade use or not..
I had a call out on Friday to a restaurant with a faulty fryer, they had a temporary one running on a 19kg propane cyclinder laying down on the floor next to it..

I'd be amazed if he managed to get out, he did seem to be driving a little fast (not that I'd know about driving with heavy gas bottle regs,) although when the boc lorry goes past i don't stay near him in my Ford  paranoia i guess.
