Radio staying on

Postby Jimmyrn85 » Sat May 27, 2017 9:00 pm

Hi guys, new owner of a 2013 mk8.
What's the deal with keeping the radio on when the engine is off? It seems to be quite random, sometimes it stays on a while sometimes it stays on a couple minutes. Tried key position I and III etc, just want the radio to stay on whilst we have a BBQ next to the van!

Thanks for your help.

2013 Mk8 :?: You mean a 2013 Custom :?: :?

Doesn't it stay on until you open a door, you then have to press the on-off button to turn it on again I think :)

Sorry! Yes I do mean a Custom.
With the key in position I onwards, the radio stays on when you open the door, but it just seems to be for very little amount of time like less than 10 minutes.
Pressing the radio on button doesn't bring the radio on again, doesn't do anything until I turn the key off and back on again where it then comes on again.
Is there a chance my battery is in poor condition and that shuts my radio off? Van starts fine though.

Do you have two batteries :?: Maybe the aux batt is failing

My 63 plate will stay on for one hour after pressing the power button with the key out. It's a limited with DAB radio, might be different without sync and DAB.

The crap Ford battery is failing.

If you press the radio on with everything off you should get the "1 hour" message pop up.

If however, you only get a few minutes before it switches off or no time at all it's time to replace your battery. It's a failsafe system that detects voltage and will turn off if you drop below a certain level and risk not starting. If your battery is the original 2013 one it has done extremely well.

Even if you have warranty with your van, I wouldn't bother getting another Ford battery. Just go to Euro car parts give them your reg and get the best battery for your budget.

I've also noticed this on mine when i was fixing it, it would turn off within a few minutes, you know it's the front battery because the central display is dead and the speedo looks half dead/full dead, ignition pos 3 makes no difference until you cycle the ignition key.

I've not tried it recently tho because i drive short distances, got no stop start tho either but i need to do a long run to recharge to get it working i suppose.

Always said the mk7/8 are thirsty on the batteries
