Ok folks, have got ut back from fords after a full regass and vent flush.

Mine is a tourneo custom with twin aircon, one unit in front and one in the back. This uses 1.1kg of r1234 type gas (the new expensive gas)

Ford cost £372 including the vat............×#!&#@÷×*"/$#?*€^%king hell!

Ooops! Not quite, yet another false understanding with respect to the EU. Nothing will change after Brexit as we helped to push the change.

"The UK ... has played a key role in developing EU-level
mechanisms to control emissions ..." .

Sorry to burst your bubble.

Mine's got the same issue and is in with Ford for the air con and an MOT next month!

I hope they don't charge me that much!

apparently the sealed part of the system contains the refrigerant which is mixed in with a lubricant oil. when you don't use the system for a while the rubber seals go dry as the oil is not being pushed around the system with the refrigerant, this then leads to leaks due to dry seals.

If that was the case you think it'd affect the air source heatpumps that some of my pools use. They sit for 6 months without use, and it's basically the same system.

Not unless they are running 'open/semi open' compressors theyre not....most stuff barring industrial sized stuff runs hermetic compressors (sealed ) like your fridge at home .

Sadly automotive compressors are rotary belt driven from the engine (barring the odd vintage american 12v hermetic)and rely on a simple rubber seal to keep the refrigerant in the system .
Folks dont bother to run their aircon in winter and the seals dry out followed by no gas in the system shortly after .

My aircon is left on continuously, the van has done 90k miles and was made in Oct 13, it's never been topped up and still works perfectly. I've got a mate who works on lorry fridges and he needs a favour, I guess I've just found the price. :D

Could you explain why?

Because even IF a full check of the system is made (recover refrigerant/pressure test/evacuate)
There's no possible way that you can guarantee that a component isn't going to fail....
Frankly I wouldn't guarantee vehicle aircon after it left my hands...

That has to be among the top 10 most stupid things ever posted here......and we’ve had some real shite over the years. I really do despair at the ever declining standard of posters.
