Mine is a tourneo custom with twin aircon, one unit in front and one in the back. This uses 1.1kg of r1234 type gas (the new expensive gas)
Ford cost £372 including the vat............×#!&#@÷×*"/$#?*€^%king hell!

apparently the sealed part of the system contains the refrigerant which is mixed in with a lubricant oil. when you don't use the system for a while the rubber seals go dry as the oil is not being pushed around the system with the refrigerant, this then leads to leaks due to dry seals.
If that was the case you think it'd affect the air source heatpumps that some of my pools use. They sit for 6 months without use, and it's basically the same system.

Could you explain why?

Because even IF a full check of the system is made (recover refrigerant/pressure test/evacuate)
There's no possible way that you can guarantee that a component isn't going to fail....
Frankly I wouldn't guarantee vehicle aircon after it left my hands...
