Ah I see, nothing wrong with my aircon, just interested to hear why a sealed system lets gas out and then the owner gets charged for having it fixed.

My van is December 15/ 65 plate i have the old gas R134A gas.

If your van is 64 plate then A, how did it get the new gas? And B, is there any other method of legally finding out which type it must have in it?
C, is there any difference in the makeup of the ac system that would prevent either gas being used without causing internal damage? (I highly doubt the new eco friendly stiff will be more corrosive tho).

If not then get the old type sticker and put the old coolant in it.

Question, will the old type be available permanently or will we get told to upgrade it?

apparently the sealed part of the system contains the refrigerant which is mixed in with a lubricant oil. when you don't use the system for a while the rubber seals go dry as the oil is not being pushed around the system with the refrigerant, this then leads to leaks due to dry seals. (or so i'm told) van goes in on Friday will let you know what happens, and how much they charge me. (or try to)

If that was the case you think it'd affect the air source heatpumps that some of my pools use. They sit for 6 months without use, and it's basically the same system.

That's basically what I was told - you have to use it regularly to stop it drying out and leaking.
I don't use mine that mush normally, so I try and remember to switch the aircon on every Friday on my way home from work - give a regular run.

Did that for the last 5 years on my previous Mondeo and never needed it regassing

Yep you are lucky, any mobile aircon service will be around £50 for you.

Mine is definitely the R1234yf as it has the sticker under the bonnet detailing it.

here is some info on why the change in gas to the new type

Mine is a 17 plate, and according to the ETIS site, it has the old R134A...strange

My van A/C Refrigerant-R134A

Not sure if anyone will check to see if you've replaced the new stuff with old stuff but it's there anyway

Just as a point of interest with different gasses.. the old R12 could be replaced with 134A as long as the seals were replaced as the R12 seals would break down very quickly with the 134A..
The oil too plays a big part.. not just a lubricant but a liquid form of ridging the gap between the seal and the metal...
Good innit...
