Help needed please

Postby tig190 » Sat Jun 03, 2017 5:31 pm

Hi all
Bought a transit custom last week and I've done 15 miles in it
Now the fun has started.
1. Mil light comes on code reader says P042F egr valve stuck closed.
2. When starting warning says hill start assist not available.
3. Traction control light stays on.
It's not a new van it's a 2015 trend with 126000 miles on it I didn't expect it to be a new van but that's what my budget could afford.
Question is what are all codes and lights telling me?
Dealers told me to bring it back and he'll sort it but will these be on going issues?
Any help will be much appreciated.

Can't help with the fault codes but mine was in and out of the dealers . Never the same fault as they did fix it but it was costing me to much time of work. That's a lot of miles on it you could ask the dealers to see the repair history on it as the system will have all its warranty work logged. If its good then you should be ok if they let you see it .
Hope it all works out for you.

Full history with it mate no expense spared it was a fleet van so anything that was needed was done straight away. To be fair to the dealer he said bring it back we'll get it sorted and I've got a loner to keep me going. Fingers crossed now

Sorry to hear of your problems...

See what the dealer comes back with. It's very hard to diagnose over the internet obviously but have a good search on here. There are a few threads on here about the hill start warning and what the fix was.

Any EGR valve at that mileage will be toward the very end of its life so it may be just a renewal. If you are keeping the van for a while you could always remove it and have it deleted via a remap. There are quite a few threads on this subject too.

I hope you get some good news and it turns out to be a decent van for you.

Cheers mate yeah I hope so too. The 14 miles with no problem was great driving lol.
Had a search round on here before before posting think i just needed some assurances. I've had transits for years and never had a major problem with any of them.
Let's hope it get sorted cos I really like the van.
I'll post what the garage say and see if it helps anybody else
