It is an untruth bolok
Have you not seen the allcock videos :?:

When using a bump key to open the door you have 10 seconds to turn the ignition before the alarm goes off.

My aftermarket alarm screams when the door open and doesn't shut off when you turn the ignition on, you need the remote fob to turn it off.

No thank you.

EDIT; You can always use the six digit code to cancel the alarm.

I would rather do that (my fob has never let me down) then get my van stolen silently.

I totally get that NO vehicle is tamper proof. If anyone wants your sh*t they can get in.

But here it is.

Can you remap the van via the OBD port?

Answer... No. you have to physically remove the ECU (which by the way has a steel tamper proof cage over it with shear bolts).... Err... that's more secure than the bloody door locks!!!!

Can you clone a key and drive the van away by the OBD port??

Answer?...... YES. And considering that could be rectified by a software update ... it's totally sh*t of a Ford to do nothing.

Ford have gone to great lengths to prevent remapping as it protects their idea of making one identical van with 3 different states of tune. That's big profit for them.

Why have they not gone to the same effort with disabling the OBD port from cloning a key??

Because there is no profit in it for them and they don't give a f*** about their customers like most other vehicle manufacturers.

Yeah but its a "service operation" making a new key
However Remapping is illegal
Am i not correct in saying that if your factory fit cat 1alarm is on and you loose the key you need a new bcm ?

BJT remapping is NOT illegal!!!

If so I've broken the law for the last 12 years.

And making a new key should be a dealer only security issue....not done via the OBD port.

I have a motorhome on a mk 7 Transit. My security option was to fit a battery isolator. When you leave the van, take the isolator key with you. There's a short length of wire bypassing the isolator with a 10 amp fuse. Thus radio etc will still work but any attempt to start the engine blows the fuse.
Accepting that nothing will ever make your vehicle theft proof, anything that interferes with the tea leaves plan has to be good, especially if they don't know why the engine won't turn over

Well I was hoping for a little more intelligent comments rather than the good natured banter in here...

This issue with the "LOCKS" was being discussed on the local BBC radio consumer programme. Someone had his van broken into using a pair of pliers only.

I've just renewed my public liability insurance and I was offered Tool cover, £10k limit for £175 pa it covers tools in the van overnight, all good until you get to the small print, "there must be signs of forceful entry or exit". Another reason to fit after market locks at least there will be some evidence to validate a claim.

I wonder how they tell if there was forced entry if the van has gone and is never recovered!

Lots of policies have clauses regarding keys. I had enduro bikes none of them had keys, one of the exclusions was theft with keys (they called it a keys out Policy) I asked about it and was told to fit ignition locks, I fitted locks but didn't connect them if the bike went I still had the key.

Well this thread will certainly show Ford how seriously some owners take security.
