Easiest place to pickup a ignition operated wire

Postby SteveOh » Sat Jun 10, 2017 8:06 pm

Hi fellas,

Whats the easiest place to pickup a ignition operated wire.
I've fitted two USB sockets to the terminals on the side of the battery box below drivers seat but I need them on a relay so the only come on with the ignition.

So I need a feed from the ignition.

Any ideas??

Sorry, my mistake, its page 149 and this is the section. 4.18.4 Vehicle Interface Connector there is a little plug that will give you 4 connections and one of them is an ignition feed, number 4 pin.

I just used it for a relay and took my power from the 60a feed on the drivers seat. there is a plug for it but its about £50 from ford. I just got a very tiny female spade connector from maplins, closed it up abit, connected wire to spade connector and then heat shrink it to insulate the whole thing and then just pushed that on to pin number 4, i have put a picture on here somewhere on here of the part number if you want to get the proper plug at a later date.

This link might get you there

Just a quick note, i've just read through the other thread and it appears that there are slightly different plugs for different years. It is a special order part so there is no returning it, so get ford to tell you which part you need and let them make the mistake if needs be.

Probably because the OP didn,t want or did not have the customer access point. The customer access point is in an auxiliary fuse box which is an optional extra which most vans will not have. He would however have the customer connection point on the side of the seat but this is a constant live and the request was for an ignition live.

So the customer access point I have in the fuse box by my right knee is an optional extra?? In the fuse box we all have?

Looking in the Bemm there is a Customer access point but it says that that is in the auxiliary fuse panel which is in the drivers seat base and used mainly for vehicle converters or specialist vehicles(hence optional extra), i never found any other designated connection point other than the ones in the manual but I may have missed others. If you know of other designated ignition feeds please feel free to mention it along with its location so we can all benefit from it. You say its in the fuse box by your right knee, how easy is it to attach to this to get the feed.

I stand corrected by S60r. There is an ignition feed in the passenger compartment fuse box. Its labelled in the manual as F21, 10A, Customer Access. I've never been into the fuse box so i couldn't tell you how easy it is to connect too.

No need to stand corrected Yasser, sharing info is what forums are for (well... in my opinion anyway :) ) it's not a battleground.... and you have helped me on many occasions with your posts. :D

It is a normal blade fuse access point and you just need the fly lead with an inline fuse carrier if you want to step down the amperage protection level. I have a 5 amp blade fuse in mine it runs my rear view LCD screen for the camera up front in the cab. It's very easy to to get under the floor or up in the headlining via the A pillar trim from there.

Halfords sell the connectors for pence.....

It's similar to this....takes minutes and no need to go near the battery compartment.
