Battery charging

I've now fitted a 100w solar panel to charge my leisure battery, I gave up with the split charge relay due to the regenerative system not fully charging it, if anything it robbed power from it. The kit came with a controller that can do two batteries, am I going to cause problems by charging the starter battery above the 80% mark (single battery van) that the regenerative system seem to stop at, I think it should work ok and top up whats used by lights and various systems that become live when you open the doors etc.
