etis security update

Postby trannydenz » Sun Aug 06, 2017 5:26 pm

My euro6 custom is at the dealers since Thursday having the gearbox fixed. Just looked on etis and it's coming up 17p03 "transit security update" under the outstanding field service actions. Anyone know what it means and I'll try and get them to do it while it's already at the dealers

It's a later calibration of the body control module, which removes the facility to unlock rear and side door by double unlocking using the key in door lock barrel itself....

So if you have a bulkhead, and some scrote gaffs the door lock, they won't get access to rear of van.
You will have to use the remote fob (or put the correct, coded key in ignition if that's failed) to open rear /side door.

Pity they didn't update mine when it was in two weeks ago cause the scumbags wouldn't be using all my new makita cordless tools now!!!

obviously this is something that is being applied to the euro 6 models presumably because they are the newest but does anybody know if this update (or similar) can be applied to earlier customs because i would presume they would all suffer the same shortfall in security as the euro 6.

Presumably a software patch that does exactly this....

I have just had direct confirmation from Ford that this ETIS update to stop the rear doors unlocking is a direct response to the security discussions on this forum. Since I randomly asked a director a question about security, he contacted me and we have had a discussion, resulting in this update and also the improved bezel on the newest customs.

Someone high up at Ford does indeed read this forum.

Personally I'm delighted at their response. Too late for me, I've already paid for my security updates, but it's a great piece of news. The new bezel is a dealer upgrade option now he tells me.

Am I correct in saying this "update " makes it so you can't open the back doors if the fob won't work ?
That's fooking bonkers only an idiot that's high up at ford that reads this forum would think up something so stupid as that

There was someone at a show few months back in a crafter couldn't open the back doors ,hot day ,dogs in the back

No! After opening the front door with the key, switch the ignition to "on", then you can open the backdoors.

Hang on, the mk7 if you had the ignition on you had to take the key out then you could unlock the back by remote, is it the same with the custom?
Reading what frag said i think it means that if you have a coded key in the lock you can double unlock it for the cargo as normal or by remote as normal but if you use a wrong key or jimmy the barrel it won't unlock the cargo yes?

Personally i think they souldn't have a direct hard link from the barrel to the actuator but a remote link that requires the correctly coded key.(actuator pin in the side of the barrel that shoots across to lock both halves of the barrel blade)

This would require power yes but I'm sure that being a little more careful of batteries etc or a bit more hassle getting in would be preferred to, where the fook r me tools or I'm sure i parked me van there.

This method could be low powered etc.

Any idea if it also stops the alarm being disabled if someone cracks the lock barrel out of the door panel? Cos that's an outstanding security feature
