Transit Custom 170 Remap/TDI Tuning

Postby Ryanjones0143 » Mon Aug 14, 2017 11:51 am

Has anyone mapped or fitted a proper tuning box to a custom 170 Euro 6?

Have you noticed much difference?

I've gone for a TDI-Tuning CRTD4 Box, abit reluctant to fit it yet until the van loosens up abit as only done 300 miles.

Yes I know I know a remap is better and all the rest of it etc etc etc

I read somewhere that all of these Euro 6 engines tune to the same bhp is that correct?

TIA

UPDATE: After speaking with the guys at TDI tuning they said it was okay to fit straight away, they have had plenty of Transit Custom owners who have fitted brand new.

First off I started it on map 4 which is the economy setting, there was a minor improvement in performance but nothing too significant. However after running this setting for 20-30 miles as they suggested I then changed the map up to map 6.

This has definitely made a BIG improvement in performance. It now pulls so much harder!

The surge in 2nd 3rd and 4th is awesome!

I was very skeptical about fitting this, but I can honestly say It's a big improvement in performance. Wether or not fuel economy has improved I'm not sure, I'm not so worried about that anyway. Had no issues with the van at all. Fitting was easy! The box however is a tad on the expensive side (£419.99)

I think as the engine starts to loosen up more and more it should get better and better, I think sometimes with these things it can be like a placebo effect where you get into your head that it feels quicker when it actually isn't but I definitely noticed a big difference.

I've had the father in law drive it aswell as he drove the van before it was fitted and he also couldn't believe the difference.

Take it as you will. I know there's a big debate about the tuning box vs remap, I just thought I would share my experience.

They just fool the fuel rail into over delivery.... I really wouldn't risk your 30k investment with one of these, but yes the Euro 6 will tune to the same level regardless of start point. Same for the Euro 5 above the 125. A tuning box is not a tune though.

Yes a remap is blah blah but for very good reason. Having said that, I'm not sure there is a solution yet for the Euro 6 so a tuning box may be the only option at present. With the issues the Euro 6 seems to be having with injectors and limp mode I certainly wouldn't be over fuelling it with a tuning box. It is your van though and I'm not here to tell you what to do with it.

Yes it will most likely clog up and sh*t itself within 6 months but at least I've had 6 months with 25 more bhp

Yeah I bought one  for a mk7 2.2 115ps and it made very little if any difference, possibly a little extra lower down the rev range but certainly not what I was hoping for. Cost me £65 and sold for £45 on eBay so it wasn't really a huge loss for something to play with.

Slightly ignorant. Plenty of proof of that.

I had one fitted to my f10 520d bmw for 5 years massive improvement without any problems with car.. Mine was an expensive one too. These cheaper versions are shite. Hence you get what you pay for.
